Sanford Health launches Same Day appointments in Fargo Region

(Fargo, ND) - Sanford Health is breaking barriers when it comes to patient care. People are driven by busy schedules, and when illness or injury strikes, they want to be seen as quickly as possible.

Sanford is meeting that need with Same Day at Sanford. The service was created to increase patient access for primary care needs the very same day. “We know our patients are driven by busy schedules and the desire to be seen as quickly as possible when they are sick,” said Richard Marsden, MD, senior executive vice president Sanford Clinic Fargo. Same Day at Sanford is another example of how Sanford Health is delivering on its promise to improve access to health care close to home.”

Sanford Health launched the service in the Fargo region today. The service is available in: family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology.

The process is simple. Patients can schedule an appointment through Same Day at Sanford by calling their primary care clinic or the Same Day phone line at (855) SAME-DAY. When patients call the Same Day phone line, a receptionist will schedule them with the appropriate clinic so they can be seen as quickly as possible.

“Our patients have been asking for this, and we’re responding,” said Dan Blue, MD, president of Sanford Clinics. “Every effort will be made for patients to see their primary care physician. If that physician isn’t available, we will make arrangements for the patient to be seen by a colleague at that local clinic or a nearby clinic if necessary.”

Same Day appointments will be treated the same as an office visit at the providing clinic. The appointments are available to patients regardless of insurance coverage.

DNR offers deer hunting clinic Aug. 11

Adults and youth who want to learn the basics of deer hunting are invited to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) deer day on Sunday, Aug. 11, from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., on the Wilkens farm near Mora in Kanabec County.

The free program, which is geared for adults who want to learn more about deer hunting, will be hosted by the DNR’s Becoming an Outdoors Family program. Youth, ages 10 and older, are welcome to attend if they are accompanied by a guardian.

Following presentations on deer and deer habit, participants will have hands-on opportunities to learn and practice field skills, including how to track deer; deer stand placement and safety; and shotgun, rifle, archery and muzzleloader shooting. Instructors will include DNR wildlife staff, DNR conservation officers, Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) volunteers and members of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association.

“Deer day is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in learning the basics of deer hunting to get hands-on experience,” said Linda Bylander, BOW coordinator.

NOTICE TO CITY OF ADA PET OWNERS:  City Ordinance requires dogs and cats that are 6 months of age or older to be licensed.  The license period is from July1 to June 30 of the following year.  The license fee is $3.00 for each neutered / spayed dog or cat and $5.00 for each unneutered / unsprayed dog or cat.  A statement from a veterinarian showing that the operation for neutering or spaying was performed is require to be eligible to receive the reduced license fee rate.  Also, proof of rabies vaccination is required.  City staff will be present to issue the licenses. 

Saturday Walk-in Clinic Resuming, Essentia Health Ada

Tuesday, September 04, 2012, Ada, MN – Just in time for the school season, Essentia Health Ada will resume the Saturday Walk-In Clinic, starting on September 8^th. Hours are 9am-noon every Saturday.

The purpose of the Walk-In Clinic is to offer convenient, non-emergent care when a patient can’t see his/her primary care provider. The Essentia Health Ada Clinic Saturday walk-in clinic will be open every Saturday from 9am-noon and will be staffed by a Physician or Mid-level provider. For patient ease, it is walk-in only, no appointments necessary.

NDSU Shepherds Clinics Set

The North Dakota State University Extension Service is hosting three free seminars on basic sheep husbandry for beginners in the sheep industry and producers who want to expand their flock.

"High sheep prices likely will attract newcomers to the sheep industry and encourage producers to expand existing sheep operations," says Reid Redden, NDSU Extension sheep specialist. "Also, the North Dakota Lamb and Wool Producers Association has a perpetual flock program that awards starter flocks to 10 youth, most of whom do not have much experience with sheep."

The Shepherds Clinics are set for June 16 in Fargo, Aug. 3 in Minot and Oct. 1 in Hettinger. All three programs will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Topics to be covered are breeding/reproduction/gestation, lambing barn management, ewe nutrition, lamb nutrition, genetics, wool production and harvesting, common health issues and marketing. The program also includes a sheep tour.

Registration is required one week prior to the seminar. Lunch will be available for purchase at each session.

Grape Pruning Clinics Set for Bismarck and Minot

Two grape pruning clinics sponsored by the North Dakota Grape Growers Association (NDGGA) and North Dakota State University Extension Service will be offered in Bismarck on April 15 and Minot on April 16.

Both meetings will begin at 9 a.m. The Bismarck meeting will be held at the Burleigh County Extension office at 3715 East Bismarck Expressway. The Minot meeting will be held at the North Central Research Extension Center at 5400 U.S. Highway 83 S.

John Thull, vineyard manager at the University of Minnesota's Horticulture Research Center, will talk about balanced pruning for optimum yield and vine
health, plus vineyard management for cold-climate grapes. After a noon lunch, there will be a hands-on pruning demonstration at a nearby vineyard.

Thull earned a bachelor of science degree in biology at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He then enrolled in a one-year grape growing and winemaking practicum at Weingut Heinrichshof on the Mosel River in Zeltingen, Germany. In 2005, he started at the Horticulture Research Center and became the vineyard manager in 2006. In addition, his family grows four acres of vines on the family farm near Greenwald, Minn.
