Myrtie Hunt Scholarship Fund established

March 28, 2012 – Bemidji, MN – The Delta Kappa Gamma – Mu Chapter has established the Myrtie Hunt Scholarship Fund as one of the family of Northwest Minnesota Women’s Fund scholarship funds that provide awards for women who are pursuing degrees at secondary education institutions in the region.

The core purpose of the Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is to upgrade teaching and the professionalism of teachers. This scholarship fulfills their purpose.

The Myrtie Hunt Scholarship Fund is expected to award annual scholarships valued at between $800 and $1 ,200, to women in their junior or senior years at a college or university within Northwest Minnesota, beginning in 2013.

According to Chapter representative Lois Falk, the Mu Chapter is delighted to honor Hunt in this way. “Myrtie would say that students need help all the way along and this is the way to do it,” Falk said.

The Northwest Minnesota Women’s Fund adds the Hunt scholarship fund to two others that it has established through the generous gifts of donors. They support women students who attend Bemidji State University, Northwest Technical College in Bemidji, Northland Community and Technical College at Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks, the University of Minnesota, Crookston, and the White Earth Tribal College. Preference will be given to women who intend to remain in the region upon graduation.
