(FARGO, N.D.) – May 11, 2012 – The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) – Fargo District – would like to update the traveling public on the West Fargo Main Avenue reconstruction project. Starting tomorrow, Saturday May 12, the intersection of 9th St. NE. /E. and Main Ave. will become closed to north to south through traffic on 9th St. NE. /E. The north to south closure is required for crews to remove the intersection pavement and install new underground storm sewer system and water pipelines for the area.
The north to south crossing of 9th St. NE/E. and Main Ave. will be closed for the next two weeks, weather permitting.
During this intersection closure:
· Motorists on 9th St. NE. /E. will not be able to cross over Main Ave.
· Traffic traveling southbound on 9th St. NE. will not be able to access Main Ave. They will be detoured to use Center St. /1st St. and 45th St. N. /S. to access the eastbound and westbound route of Main Ave.
· Traffic traveling northbound on 9th St. E. will be able to access the eastbound and westbound traffic flow of Main Ave.
· Motorists will still be able to travel eastbound and westbound throughout the Main Ave. corridor as current traffic control has set up in the construction zone.
Detour signage is posted for alternative routes. Motorist need to be aware of workers and equipment in near proximity to traffic throughout the construction area, use extra caution and obey flaggers and posted signs. The speed limit in this work zone is 25mph.
Also as a traffic reminder, the south frontage road between 17th St. E. and 45th St. N. has been redirected to an eastbound only one-way route. Businesses along this stretch of roadway are accessible and open to the public by way of the south frontage road. Motorists using the south frontage road will re-enter traffic a block south of the Main Ave. /45th St. N. intersection.
